This is a super-quick and light vegetable side dish that accompanies any main dish. The key is to do a quick sear on the bok choy and remove it from the pan once you start to see the grill marks so that it still has a crunch factor when you bite into it and is not mushy.
It’s important that you wash bok choy well as small little bugs can get stuck in them. I always cut them in half first and then wash them really well before shaking the excess water off and blotting with a paper towel to dry.
This is a really quick & delicious side dish that is perfect year-round! It’s great on the BBQ in the summer as well as on a cast iron pan anytime!
- 1 lb baby bok choy
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil -or olive oil
- 1 Tbsp hoisin sauce -omit for Whole30 or sub with Coconut Aminos
- Sesame seeds, red chili flakes, lemon juice -to taste for garnish
Slice bok choy in half and wash well in water. Shake off excess water and dab with a paper towel to dry.
Heatpan or grill to medium heat and add oil.
Place bok choy cut side down onto hot pan and allow to sear for 5-7 minutes. Do not crowd the pan - you may need to cook in batches.
Remove from hot pan and drizzle lemon juice and hoisin sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and chili flakes if desired. Serve hot.
